Each departure is a different story: a retiring employee, a young expatriate, someone who is no more, a couple that breaks up, a migrant willing to lose everything. Each exodus is a heady mix of melancholy and hope.

To leave without a word,
because one simply must,
because everything’s left to do.
At the speed of a fool,
that burns like a fever,
to leave without a sound,
without looking backwards.
To leave with a heart filled,
with courage and desire,
and urgency and fear.
And to choose the unknown,
eyes turned towards the sky,
To be the first ones
To want to fly away.
To leave in the end most of all,
since even lighter than our beings,
our spirits are eternally footloose.
To remain free, despite it all, despite the pain,
having tried so much already, and to try again.
And again, and again.
